So I've soaked my barrel in vinegar for 2 hours and it was still all black and scrubbing it with a scotch bright pad didn't remove anything either. Is it supposed to still be black or should it look silver? What should I do?

Btw, this is for barrel polishing.

Next to the serial number on the barrel, there should be a pentagon shape. Does the pentagon have a dot inside it or no? The reason I ask is that barrels with a plain pentagon have the old black finish and barrels with the "dotted pentagon" have the new grey finish. The old black finish was much easier to remove, I haven't even seen someone do a barrel polish on the new grey finished barrel.

I've never done it, but there are lots of videos about it on YouTube.
