Many thanks. I will carefully look it over.
This is the reason we had to switch cellphone companies.Originally posted by R. Emmelman
There has been a couple of agencies in Indiana that have switched back from digital to analog. Seems the digital frequencies would not cover their area. Also another problem with digital vs analog is it is all or nothing. At least with a real crappy analog you can still get some information. Funny how my analog cell phone will work many places that the digital ones won't.

Question: Is there any way, excepting calling the police dispatcher, of determining whether or not the 'locals' use digital or analog?

More than likely the dispatchers and/or the coppers themselves have no idea what radio system is being used.
*Good point. I have known a few dispatchers, etc., and I fear you nailed this one.
There are tons of resources available on the web. Your local radio shack may even know, although radio shack has gone way down hill in the scanner/radio world.
* Thanks for the tip on RS & scanners. This is exactly the "inside" I am searching for.
