I need some influence...ideally I'd like a Keltec PF9 but I'm in California and it's not on the roster so the other two guns I like are the S&W 642 and Glock 26.

My purspose for this gun is back-up to a gun in a caliber that I already have, 9mm or 38 sp.

I already have a G19 and love it. It's my go-to gun. The G26 is a natural 2nd gun to the G19 but is it already so close in size and weight to make it redundant? I don't know so I'm asking for your advice!

I also have a Rossi M92 that I also love and the 642 uses the same ammo. I like how concealable the 642 is but I used to have one and sold it about a year ago. I shot it OK but there is a new model 642 with longer 2.5" barrel that has my attention. Will I end up selling it just like I did the last year...I don't know!

Thanks and let me have it!

642 will be easier to carry but the 26 has more rounds. Choice is yours. If I carried a revolver (my wife does a 642) I would choose a .357. Just because.

I've considered the 3" model 60 in 357 mag but it's about the same weight as the G19 loaded but holds only 5 rounds...I chose the G19 and I'm not looking back.

I won't carry a handgun heavier than the G19 and I want this next gun to be even lighter. The lighter the better!

I say get the G26. I have a G19 and plan to get a G26 soo n to compliment it. I also have a S&W 340 M&P(LOVE IT!) that i currently carry as a backup(sometimes as just my primary) to my G19 or G23 but now I want a 26 o 27 to go with my main carry pieces

Also, I recomend the XS Big Dot sights for both pistols...

I am guessing aksing for a push on a Glock forum will result in a push for the Glock 26? Just a guess though...I could be wrong???

Maybe so but I think Glocktalk is very popular form and has more than just Glock fans. Regardless, I appreciate all feedback.

    G26. It's the right choice.

What about the Kahr pistols? Are any of the 9mm's OK in CA? I have a Kahr PM9 (or is it MP9?) that I like a lot. It is thinner than the Glock 26 due to single stack magazine...

I prefer pocket carry and the 642 works better for me. I do like the G26 and will probably buy another one day but the 642 is my go everywhere carry firearm. When I am not carrying the 642 I carry my G19 or G30 but I find the 642 in my pocket more times than not.

    Just another opinion.

    642. It's lighter than the 26 and like you said, the 19 and the 26 are so close in size and weight it's basicly redundant.

PM9 is on the roster but it's around $700 here and I honestly don't think it's worth that much.

Taurus PT111 is on the roster but the weight being nearly the same as a G26 I figure stick with the Glock brand and get the mag interchangeability with the G19.

I have both and have carried each. The 642 & G26 are almost the same size. I prefer to shoot the Glock, because the 642 hurts my hand after about 5 rounds. I probably would not care about that if I had to use it, but it is not fun to practice with.

IMO... The G26 makes more sense, especially as a backup to your G19.

I like the aluminum J-Frames because they are so dang light and easy to toss in a pocket. I call mine the "gun I carry, when I don't plan to carry a gun". Tossing in an a cargo short's pocket, Mexican waistband carry or in a windbreaker pocket is a snap. I agree the Glock has more firepower, etc... but for an absent-minded soul like myself, the .38 snubbie fits the bill when I'm in a hurry. There are times where I would have been unarmed were it not for the 2 seconds it took to jam the snubbie in my pocket. The gun you actually have on you is better than the one you don't.

Last week I was decided on the 642 but now I'm not sure. I really like this new model with a bit longer barrel. http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/...angId=-1&parent_category_rn=15704&isFirearm=Y I learned from S&W that it will be submitted top California for testing within a week or so and shouldn't have any problems getting added to the roster.

If I had to choose this very instant it would be this new 642 but the G26 is a close 2nd. And No, don't say get both!

642 Duh :) just nicer to carry...I will sacrifice rounds/capacity for a gun thats nicer to carry. Thats why my next gun will be a single stack thin gun and it will put the Glock 23 into the safe(that is if i dont sell it first finally...got a possible buyer finally!)
