I used to use a Comp-Tac gun belt with the kydex stiffener. Well, it finally gave up the ghost and the stiffener broke. Now is it not only not strong enough to carry a holster setup, but it's downright uncomfortable, too. The point where the stiffener gave way pulls together and pinches at the small of my back.

I picked up a belt at the Indy 1500 for $15 since I needed a new belt anyway (my gun belt was my standard everyday belt, so without it my pants were sagging.) I got it home, tried it on with a carry rig, and I can definitely say that it's no good as a carry rig, but it'll work for day-to-day stuff.

So I need a new one. What's a decent gun belt to be had for a good price? I know Beltman is pretty much the top-of-the-line, but I can't spend $300 on a belt right now. Less than $80 is a must and less than $60 would be ideal.

Has the beltman gone up that much? I don't recall spending over a hundred a few years ago?

Uncle Mikes makes an instructors belt that is awesome for a little over $20. I like it so much it has become my new inner belt on duty. You don't have to spend $100 to get a good belt.

Ares gear, jones tactical, wilderness. My top 3 in that order.

+1 On these. Only downside is the wait time for the belts to be made. I have one on the way from Ares Gear, and I love the one I have from Jones Tactical.

I'll second the Ares Gear Ranger belt, or The Wilderness instructors belt. But my two most often used belts are my Crossbreed leather belt and my Blackhawk If you're in a pinch for a belt now, most sporting goods stores should sell the Blackhawk CQB/Riggers belt. They also make an Instructors belt available in 1.75" and 1.5". It's the same as the cqb/riggers except with a stiffener. My Blackhawk without the stiffener does just fine.

If you carry with an untucked shirt just get an Uncle Mike's Instructor Belt. You can get it for about $25 to $30, and it will do a great job. I use one as my inner belt, when I put on my duty belt with all the raid gear on it.

If you need a leather belt that people will see, I suggest getting one from thebeltman.net I have a 1-1/4" belt for when I have to wear a suit for court. I also have two double thick horsehide belts from Kramer, but horsehide doesn't take the dye very well to begin with, and after several years they look very beat up, but still hold the gun, cuffs, and mags up very well.

Wilderness Tactical 5-stitch. I just got one myself last week...it is AWESOME. All that and a bag of chips. It's made in the USA too, I don't think most of the others like it are.
