My comment was tongue-in-cheek, it looks like a broken arrow (at least to me).

Of course it could be Mars airmail, now that they have drones :)

Now days one hardly has to look out the window, the wiz-bang gps does it all, just kidding. In those very early years not as much man made structures or interstate system to help navigate by.

Besides the navigation, now we have a lot of the airspace carved up, not an issue back then.

My pilot buddy refers to IFR (I follow Roads) navigation.

Back then, there were no roads to follow.

Very cool. I just caught a reference to the light beacons in a YouTube video about early planes, but didn't know what they were talking about... now I do!

I have seen most in Oregon, Idaho, Utah and California.

It surprise me that no one asked, "why yellow?"
They were originally yellow. Just a little paint left. No doubt, good old fashioned lead paint to hold up that long.

I ate a couple chips for good luck.
