Sebelius: FDA Will Require Health Labels on Front of Food Packages
    Thursday, April 08, 2010
    By Edwin Mora

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. (AP Photo/Haraz N. Ghanbari)(CNSNews.com) -- Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Kathleen Sebelius said today that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is developing a new regulation that would require food manufacturers to display nutritional information on the front of packages.

This would mean that the front of a Wheaties box, for example, would display not only the smiling face of a famous athlete but also declare how many calories from fat are in each serving.

“Busy shoppers will be able to go into grocery stores and have some easy to understand information on the front of packages giving them quick data on what is a healthier choice,” said Sebelius at the U.S. Capitol.

“The Food and Drug Administration right now is working with food manufacturers to not only update the nutritional labeling on the back of packages, which right now is written in small bar codes and pretty indecipherable and hasn’t been updated in 20 years, but to move to a front-of-package labeling strategy,” said Sebelius.

I guess turning over your package of Ding-Dongs to read the label is just way too much trouble. This is gettin' pathetic.

Oh come on. Anybody that cares can turn the box over and read all about the fat/calories/sodium or whatever. This is another feel-good regulation that won't do squat to decrease obesity in this country.

Really? Who is so busy that they can't look on the back of whatever it is they're contemplating buying as opposed to the front? I must not be an important person as my time is valuable, but not THAT valuable.

Now the fatties don't have to expend the energy to flip the box around. :whistling:

What is it about these control freaks that feel they have to do something for us stupid peons to save us from ourselves? Don't folks realize just how dumb they think we are that we can't flip a package around if we're interested in calories?! It should piss everyone off so bad that we vote them all out!

But alas, I know I fume in vain. The majority simply don't care, or even pay attention for that matter.

Hey here's an idea. If you don't want to be a fatass, eat food that doesn't need nutrition facts. Meat, Fish, Fruit, and Vegetables.

So, it's already on the package and now they are afraid they need to push your head down and rub your nose in it, since people don't care enough to read what's already there? That is F'N stupid.

This is what happens when you have a DICTATORSHIP and not a REPUBLIC. There is no leadership. All the various agencies are running wild with their power. Each one wants to be on top of the pile, the one who CONTROLS more people, the one who TAXES more citizens. It is about THEM NOT WE THE PEOPLE. Either vote intelligently in November or get used to being servants of the government.
