So I have a final project that has to do with cross cultural myths. Basically, I need to write a paper on a myth that has a version in at least 3 different cultures. Things like Santa Claus and werewolves are already taken because I procrastinated. I need to have an idea by midnight tonight. I know the there are some history and myth connoisseurs out there. Please help!

Sasquatch (bigfoot), Lock Ness, Sand Man, Gnomes, Ghosts.....ect.

Perhaps I'm not clear, does it have to be about "creatures", ie mythical beings, or can it be just any cross cultural myth?

Here are a few myths that seem to go across cultures:

Internet forums will do your homework for you.

9mm is as powerful as .45 ACP.

Tumbling your brass in Brasso will lead to catastrophic failure.

A country can spend its way out of a recession.

Global climate change is man made.

There is the "creation" myth...almost all cultures have their version of how the world was created, or how the first men/women were created.

Also "god" as someone mentioned above. All cultures have their own versions of god. Or, you could just look at monotheistic cultures...there are many of those and they all have similarities to the christian faith (probably because christianity was based off of them).

Most of what you guys suggested have already been taken. But, Sandman isn't and I kind of like it. I forgot all about the sandman.

How about the myth of guns being too dangerous for individual private ownership and carry?

The great floods is a good one but, it's already taken. The myth about gun ownership wouldn't fly :) It's an ancient mythology class. Like Greek mythology. The assignment isn't bound to that but, I know my liberal professor wouldn't let that one pass muster.

How about zombies? Seriously, most cultures have a "back from the dead" myth.

Another is what different cultures tell their kids when asked where babies come from.
