My best friend of 23 years is turning 52 this week, so I'm giving him my Springfield GI as a birthday present. The guy is a guns enthusiast and has some decent pieces but no autopistols and he hadn't had the fun fund to get anything lately (wife, kids, the usual).

Instead of buying him something unknown, I'd rather give him my tried-n-trued, worked over Springfield: 4-lbs trigger pull, feed ramp polished, throated barrel, fitted & smoothed action - the action glides the way a Beretta action glides. He doesn't know it yet, but he will in a few hours. Of course, the micarta grips have to come off. I'm sure he doesn't want a set of grips with my initials scrimshawed on them.

Tchau, my Brazilian beauty. Still have the Loaded though so I'm not entirely Brazilian less.

Because the grips have my initials on it? And besides, I want those grips. I don't mind giving a pistol away, but my Lett custom grips? Hell no!!!
Those grips might look good on a new Hard-Chromed American Classic Commander.

He wanted to give his friend a gun that worked.

It's a nice gift too.
A few years ago I gave my closest friend my Model 28-2- a beautiful revolver, but I don't regret it.
That's right. This gun's innards had been worked over but the outside is still stock. He can leave it the way it is or he can jazz it out.

Of course, he does have a sweet no dash 686 that he might want to give to me for my 52th birthday.:embarassed:

Is that really a GI? It has the lowered ejection port and slanted rear serrations like a Mil-Spec. I'm looking at my Mil-Spec right now, and yours looks just like mine... only with smaller sights on yours.

:dunno:

And what do you mean about the fitted and smoothed action? Polishing the parts and rails or something?

Nice grips, by the way. They remind me of a certain Stallone movie.
