    After taking test after test, we have been waiting for the last test to be passed. The letter came this afternoon but he was too upset to look at it until we were all home tonight after he got out of work. My wife and I were sick to our stomachs because he was not sure how he had done on this last test which was the polygraph. He was a wreck. So he comes home doesn't say a word,sits down in the living room chair, opens up the letter as my wife and I are watching and........he smiles and then starts to shed tears of joy. And so did we. We could not be more proud.

    Save some of those tears for the graduation. My son graduated in June and the ceremony was awesome. In our case, not only did he graduate, but he took the scholastic top honors with the highest test average. The whole family teared up.

    Congrats to your son. I know how proud you are.

    Congrats!

    Remind him that at the Academy no one cares what he knows. Listen, do, finish.

    Aye. And tell him not to get too caught up in it; maintaining a full and nurturing life apart from work is paramount.

    Objectivity and pragmatism at all costs...

    An old timer said to me YEARS ago;

    "The Job is a whore, kid; she'll never love you back."

    Tell him Best Wishes.

    Be safe. :wavey:

    Congrats to your son! I'm half-way through my corrections academy now. If he hasn't already, have him start running and doing pushups and situps. Learning facing movements now could save him some headaches down the line. If he has trouble with the class work, tell him to form a study group with some of the other kids. It helps a lot.

    As hard as it can be at times, also tell him to enjoy it. I've made some great friends and had lots of laughs. Most of all, tell him to listen to the instructors. If they don't say to do it, don't do it. Easy as Simon Says.

    Good luck to him! :wavey:

    Some of the best advise I got during my LE academy years ago was when a police chaplain came in to talk a bit about what they do and when to call one out he told us to remember who are friends are now and not to lose contact with them. He said he had seen so many officers lose contact with lifelong friends just because they became a police officer and then felt they could only hang out with other police officers.

    I really took that to heart and kept up my "off duty" stuff like triathlon training and had a good group of friends who I had known since junior high. Been out of LE now for some years. Will sometimes have a quick chat with a former LEO who I knew back in the day but those guys from junior high are still my best friends and will be forever no matter the distance we are from each other.

    Good luck to your son and guess it goes without saying some of his current friends may have to be dropped. I had a few that had to go. Just a bit to crazy and never quite grew up. If your son just uses good judgement he will be fine. Like it or not one can be judged by the company they keep. He will learn that pretty quick on the street from the thugs who say they are not in a gang, they just like to hang out with gang members!

    Absolutely outstanding!

    Don't forget you and his mom had a lot do with this.
