Had posted a query or two about what to buy. Ended up with this Colt H-Bar with 16.1" barrel. "M4" receiver. Also got an ammo can of 400 rounds for 139.00 bucks.

    Thanks for all your help.

Very nice rifle. When Colt says "Match Target", what does it actually mean? Are there any special parts, trigger, or barrel, that differentiate an MT from a Government Model Colt AR? Is it supposed to be more accurate?

Yes...it is "supposed" to be more accurate. As far as I know though, the only difference is the heavy barrel combined with the 1 - 9 twist rate. I don't think there is any special trigger group or anything in there. The receiver is the standard, mil-spec M4. Edit: also the crown on the barrel is a "target" crown.

Actually, the Colt Match Target series of rifles are just 'ban state' compliant models.
For example, the MT6400/6400R is the ban state counterpart of the 6920/6940.

They lack bayonette lugs, flash hiders, and collapsable stocks are pinned in place to meet the laws of the 'ban staters' (like my state). They are re-named 'Match Target' to get around laws that specifically ban by name rifles marked 'AR-15'.
Nothing special about them other than that. The parts are all Colt.

    I have 3....MT6400, MT6400R, and a MT6700.

    Hope this helps.

hmm...isn't there a different twist rate? That's what the catalog says.

The MT6400/6400R has a 1/7 twist chrome lined barrel, just like the 6920/6940.

The MT6700 and 6721 have a 1/9 twist. The 6700 does not have a chrome lined barrel. Not sure about the 6721.

this is a 6731. Non-chrome barrel with a 1/9 twist. At the end of the day, it isn't really a concern of mine. I won't be bench-resting it or anything like that. "Combat accuracy" is really all I'm after.

Great rifles! You will do better then 'combat accuracy' with that one, once you find a load it likes.

Not to be a Debby Downer...... but that heavy barrel will get real old real fast if you plan to do anything other than mount a scope and shoot it that way.

But the good thing is now you only need to get a different upper when you decide to upgrade.

....and the 6520 upper would be a great alternative for a nice KISS rifle.

Exactly. At this point, my main objective was to "invest" in a solid platform that would also be a good shooter. Which, I could trick-out at a later date if need be.
