That’s a JCM 800 in the other pic I posted.
There’s a Dumble for sale now on Reverb. $22k!!!
Nice! I'd like to plug my tele into that!
Here is a little 18 watt el84 amp I designed and built using spare parts. I built it for my wife’s grandpa who was a cattle rancher all his life.
I used old barn wood and burned all the family cattle brands into it for a rustic look.
The twin 8” Muzak speakers came out of an office building that was being demolished and they actually sound quite good. At reasonable volume it has a super clean sound but when you crank it you get some nice cone breakup and wide open the tubes start to breakup for a really raunchy distortion sound.
Man, the stories you could tell. Feel free to share a few of the spirit moves you...
I just picked up a LP classic in Cherry Sunburst. Was my grail guitar since college. I need to get a smaller amp than the Fender I have as not to annoy the Misses and kiddos too much. Thoughts on this?
That is really awesome.
In those pics, you can see a red and a purple Hotplate. Those are attenuators that let me crank the amps but then lower th voltage to make them quiet. Perhaps that would work for you.
that is too cool GD
you got stuff
Cool! The only tubes in my house are in an old Heathkit 20m ham transceiver. I was going to take a picture of them glowing, but I ran out of time on my lunch break.
where's the rectifier? 7189A tubes are great. You don't see them a lot. Is that a single-ended "Class A" design?
I have quite a collection of old tube amps. No tweeds from the 50's though. I have one of the first silver faced Twins that was very easy to blackface. I think my best sounding amp is a Genz Benz Black Pearl running four EL-84's class A.
I used SS rectification. It’s push pull.
I guess that tube glow is ok.
THIS is tube glow!
811A transmitting tubes in one of my Altec 1570b amplifiers.
I’ve always wanted to add a 12ax7 to the gain stage and turn one into a guitar amp. 165 watts of window rattling, neighbor irritating tube power! I just can’t do it though. You just don’t see many 1570s around anymore.
Since you haven't used that amp for 7 years, better ship it to me and I'll work the bugs out. I'll have it back in... I don't know... 7 years?
Truth be told, I play mostly acoustic. But I just got an electric - haven't had one since 1992.
I have one tube amp that I built. Built to Fender specs a Brown Princeton (Brownie)
That is the coolest hand made thing on GT I have seen in...forever?
Well thank you.
I designed the Black Pearl. Seriously. That’s the one John Hiatt and Brent Mason played.
It isn’t a true Class A. It is cathode biased. It will run in class A at lower volumes but switches to push-pull as you crank it. The same as a VOX AC30.
You'll have to fill us in on the details sometime. And not just these two guys...
I will when I’m on my computer and not on my phone. Too many typos when on the phone.
I’ll post a link to a YouTube video of me doing a product demo on it too.
