my glock jammed

i have a g19 and was shooting the other day when a live round (UMC) jammed in my gun. The slide was not all the way closed but we absolutly could not budge the slide to dislodge the live round. We could see the round from the magwell as well as the top. i took it to a gunsmith who ended up getting a good grip on the slide and was able to rack it out. He said that it was probably an expanded case. the umc round was looked crimped up on one side, that could of been when the gunsmith tried to hammer the slide foward with a rubber mallet. i was just wondering what all could of caused this? has any one had this happen to them?

Without pictures or a more detailed description of the failure, a number of things could have caused it....

Bad recoil spring, bad mag spring, thumb riding the side of the slide and slowing the recoil impulse, limp-wristing, bad follower, out of spec ammo, or evil gremlins.
bad crimp [ie no crimp or not enough to remove belling on case mouth] will do this as the case is too wide for spec - have a g30 that did this with reloads that fit everything else 45 i shoot
IMHO it is bad ammo. My Department has had 2 Remington .40 cal cases that were slightly longer and would not allow the slide&barrel to lock.
Yes, bad ammo.
In fact a few months ago, I was loading some UMC 9mm (250 round box, right? ) and saw a mashed case. The bullet had been seated onto not into the brass. Somehow got past QC, and almost into a Glock magazine. Showed my friend, then chucked it. All the rest was ok. Still, those UMC & WWB is decent ammo for play

A few weeks ago I had a UMC .380 round where the nose of the bullet was even with the top of the case. Amazingly the case was not spilt down the side. I am glad I inspect each round out of the box before I load it into the mags.

Talk about bullet setback:supergrin: I dont know how it could have been setback that far if there was a full powder charge in the case so it might or might now have KB'd, still I was not happy.

That round along with the lot# got sent back to Remington. Rem was very concerned and sent me a voucher for free ammo. Since they were helpful and concrened Rem UMC is still my preffered practice ammo for all calibers.

I agree that bad (out of spec) target ammo is the culprit in many jams.
Is this differant than N.Y. had with there 19s
