My first 1911

    I have been thinking about getting a .45 for a home gun and went ahead today and ordered my first 1911, Taurus PT1911 SS. I am a glock buy so i know nothing about these guns but i got a good deal so said why not. Anyone want to breakdown anything i should know for me?

    how good of a deal. the general feeling is that there are much better guns than the Taurus at the same price range.

    The fact that you've made your decision makes any opinions irrelevant.
    All brands have their proponents and detractors. A suggestion would be that you thoroughly shake down your new purchase with at least a couple of hundred rounds of your intended ammo, and magazines before you entrust it with your family's safety. Any glitches should obviously be thoroughly addressed. If you can't go a couple hundred rounds without a malfunction, its time to dust off the Glocks.

    I just wished you would have posted this before buying.

    As far as Taurus is concerned, some have been good, while others (including mine) have had some issues.

    I'm hoping you got a good one. :)

    In my experience a lot of feeding probelms can be cured with good mags.

    Watch some youtube videos about how to take down the 1911 without getting the idiot scratch.

    Start saving for your next 1911 because they are so addicative.

    bac1023 makes people do irrational things due to his collection, so be warned :supergrin:

    Congrats! Welcome to the 1911 family. The first 1911 is a pretty excitung things. As mentioned earlier in the post, safe your money. The 1911 fever run strong.

    IF...you have any issues at all with it (good or bad) and have questions...be sure to share them and ask the great members here on GT 1911 forum. They are always willing to help and have an incredible knowledge base from which you can draw upon! Without question, I would say this is the best forum/site for 1911 nuts...noobs and experts alike!

    I would keep the Glocks for HD. I love 1911s and have more than any rational human would ever consider buying. Glock all the way for serious purposes.

    I picked one up a while back (It was super cheap $) and it has been 100% with all ammo and never had any problems. Fit/finish is not as nice as my Kimbers, but the performance to price ratio has been great!
