I know, I know... Every one thinks their kid is talented and special and farts rainbows.

I've been in some awkward situations where someone has shown me pictures their kid has drawn or painted(as adults) and they think they are wonderfully artistic and beautiful when they are actually just plain awful.

Hopefully that's not the case with my daughter's renderings of various dogs... She's not a professional, doesn't try to sell them, just is a bored Air Force wife living in Japan where there are few dogs, so she draws them...

Even draws the occasional cat and seems to nail it...

She may enjoy having customers email photographs of their dog to her, drawing/painting them from the photo, and then selling the finished product to them. Many pet owners would enjoy having a drawing/painting of their dog.

Very good, my daughter has a BFA in illustration, so I have seen some nice pencil work and that is pretty darn good.

One thing nice about having an artist in the family, Christmas and birthday gifts are easy. Canvas, pencils & watercolors are almost always welcome.

Never thought my kid's farts were special. However, the artwork reminds me of what my mother used to do as a bored Air Force wife as well. Some of them are framed in my folk's house.

I mentioned this to her... There was a charity auction at work a couple of months ago and one of the items to bid on was exactly what you described. Value was $125.

Has she thought about setting up an ETSY account to do pet portraits. People drop serious, serious, coin on their pets.

    Nice work, very good renditions.

    Drawn from photos ?

Also, what media ? Pencil ? watercolor ? Chalk ?

Pets don't last as long as people in life, many would love portraits of their esteemed pets.

My son did a montage photos of our Yorkie when she was young and hairy ( the York, not the wife ) for the her last X-Mas, brought her to tears ( the wife, not the Yorkie ) .

They are beautiful. She is certainly very talented.

In retrospect, considering how some Japanese almost worship Akitas, I would be surprised if she couldn't make some extra change by selling these types of pictures.

She captures a quality in the dogs that make them appeal to the viewer. She might make a name for herself.

That's how I became a photographer. I failed art in elementary school. I just can't draw. It really bothered me. That was in 4th grade. In 6th grade I discovered B&W photography and built my first darkroom. Still bugs me I can't draw.
