If you like being around patriotic people, you want to be there. Live music, fly bys, static displays, festival food and fireworks.

We went a couple of years ago and they presented two Silver Stars, one with V, to local troops. One AF, one Marine. No idea if anything similar will go on this year.

Note, this is ON the Air Force base, leave your Glock home and your pocket knife in the car.

i enjoyed the cold war exhibit. last time i was down was about 17 years ago...aviation has progressed a bit since then it seems.
mountainboy, did you know that they built an entire new hanger a couple of years ago? You need to get back, a LOT has changed.

You definatly need to go back. They built a Presidential hanger, it has most of the planes used as AF1, including 26000 which was used up though until 1991 or so, when it was replaced by the current 747. It's the same plane that carried JFK's body. Very interesting stuff.

The presidential and R&D hangers are on an active part of the base. You will need to show ID to visit them. There is a sign up sheet at the information desk, you sign up and they shuttle you over there at scheduled times. The sign up sheets fill up quickly, and it's first come first serve, so sign up as soon as you arrive.

It's all 100% free to. No admission and no parking costs.
Well, got home at 0100 this morning. Weather was perfect, crowd was great as always, food was expensive, fireworks was outstanding. Flybys by a C47 with para drop using WWII chutes, C130 with para drop, P51, B25, a NASA research jet, B52, Lancer, 2 F15s. I hate to admit it, but there was one of the new heavy lift cargo jets and I haven't kept up so I didn't recognize it.
