...anybody here besides me eat it. I love the yellow, but only tolerate the white.
I've never seen it available... Whaddaya do with it?
It's usually available in the southeastern coastal states around October through January. Lightly salt and deep fry the roe in 325F oil for about 6-9 minutes, depending on size of the roe. In our area it's about $10 per pound though. 20 years ago you could'nt hardly give it away, then the Japanese found out about the lowly mullet! White roe is the male sperm, yellow roe(some people call it red roe) is the female eggs.
P.S.- WARNING! Don't eat it as "leftovers". You will most likely soil your drawers, and never know you did, until someone asks you what is on the seat of your pants or you discover it yourself! Eat it same day as cooked...no problem.
