I was watching the Mist on TV yesterday and noticed that 3 of the characters in the Mist are also in the walking dead.

The old man who got his guts ripped out.
The suicidal blonde thats no longer suicidal.
The short haired lady who lost her daughter.

I guess they are making a good career in SHTF movies?

Btw, I liked the human dynamics of this movie. Getting caught away from home when SHTF. Some shelter in place while others run. People start to group up. The groups argue on whats best. Some are religious freaks, some are cowards, some just make stupid decisions and some take heroic action.

This movie seemed like a fairly accurate example of how a group of people might act under stress in a real SHTF event? I know its just a B movie sci-fi flick but its kind of an interesting character study too.

I couldn't finish the movie - was freaked out by the book decades earlier. FREAKED. OUT!

    You JUST noticed that?

Actually, the connection is pretty simple - Frank Darabont wrote the screenplay and directed The Mist, and was the writer, director, and executive producer for the 1st season of TWD. Those actors are like his 'Breakfast Club' (pun intended.)

The Mist and TWD are really about the same thing: How ordinary people people react to the complete breakdown of society.

I liked The Mist (cheezy creature effects and all...)

I liked The Mist. People gave me a hard time when I said I liked it, but it was watchable and I got into the movie (two biggest things a movie requires, to me).

Now, I've never seen Walking Dead. It sounds like something I'd like, but I'm not big into TV dramas. As far as fictitious TV shows, I like comedy. Only drama I habitually watch is Dexter.

The Mist was great. Stephen King said that he like the end of the movie better that the end of his book.

Interesting...I MUCH preferred the book ending to that of the film...

You really should watch the first episode of TWD.

All of season one was amazing, and each episode builds nicely on the last, so if you like episode one, you'll like the rest.

Some fans complained that season two was lacking in zombie kill action, and I agree it had some overly dramatic 'touchy-feely' episodes, but really, it was a setup for what is looking like an amazing Season Three to come.

Watch the first episode - you might get hopelessly addicted, like me and so many other have.

I'll give it a try. I'll get the first season from Netflix.

HOLY COW the ending is crazy.

Great movie though. I didn't like the crazy religious girl though... Come on, its the end of the world chick, you're that much closer to God, you should relax. Mob mentality was a good capture of the human mindset in an emergency though.

I liked The Mist well enough to buy it. I also read the story years ago and enjoyed it too. If memory serves, it was a short story in a book called Different Seasons, which included other stories that became movies--including Stand by Me and Apt Pupil. All good stuff!

Yes, I did notice many cast members of The Mist in The Walking Dead. The old guy with the fishing cap was in everything from The Mist to The Green Mile, to Shawshank Redemption. :fred:

I was surprised at how much I liked the first four episodes of The Walking Dead! The last two, not as much, though the zombie conversion (T-19) via the MRI or X-ray, or whatever that was on that big plasma screen in the lab was creepy and depressing as hell! :frown:

Other good horror, including some good B-grade stuff includes:

    Silent Hill

    Event Horizon

    The Haunting in Connecticut (2009)

    The Thing (1982)

    The Thing (2011)

    Interview with the Vampire

    28 Days Later

    Pulse

The Last House on the Left (2009)

I Spit on Your Grave (2010)

    High Tension

    The Ring (2002)

    The Ring Two (2005)

    Halloween (1978)

Halloween III: Season of the Witch

    Silver Bullet

    The Exorcism of Emily Rose

    Carrie

    Nightmare on Elm Street

    The People Under The Stairs

    The Faculty

    Necronomicon: Book of the Dead

    An American Werewolf in London

    Fright Night (1985)

    Prophecy

    Hell Raiser (All versions)

    Hostel

    Hostel: Part II

    Rosemary's Baby

    The Exorcist (1973)

    The Omen (1976)

    The Omen 666 (2006)

    Psycho (1960)

    Graveyard Shift

    Vampire Hunter D (Anime)

    The Shining

    Pan's Labyrinth

    From Dusk till Dawn

    Phantasm (1979)

    The Orphanage

    Storm of the Century

I consider movies like, Silence of the Lambs, Red Dragon, Seven, Suspect Zero, Pitch Black, Alien & Aliens, Donnie Darko and the like, to be more sci-fi than horror, but in several cases I guess it's arguable.

My video library includes most of the titles mentioned.

Yeah, that was a ballsy move by the director, as that ending's pretty hard to take!

I agree one of the most WTF ending EVER!!!!!!!! Top 3 for sure. I dont want to spoil it for those who never saw the Mist. Watch it for the character development and interaction under TEOTWAWKI conditions... and of course watch it for the ending scene. Im shocked just thinking about it.

I only noticed the walking dead characters just now because I had not watched the Mist is a long time and I never paid attention to who exactly played the supporting actors back then.

For the guy who never watched the walking dead... at least watch season 1. Its by far one of the best TV movies ever made. It could have been released as a theater movie as far as Im concerned.

    Best lesson this film teaches us, is you can never have enough ammo. The ONE armed person has TWO speedloaders for her Magnum Carry. {And the gun is EMPTY!!!!!}

Which could be sincere, or could be King kissing up to the due that made his book into a movie, thus hooking him up with movie royalties.....

    EDIT TO ADD:

There is a fan site somewhere online, where you can send them proff of purchase of the DVD, and they will send you a DVD with like an animated/sketches version of the book ending ofthe movie.....
