    I've had a strange and intermittent problem for some time now.

    Occasionally, my mouse pointer(white arrow) will fail to respond, and will wildly jump about the screen, opening and closing, rapidly several uncommanded windows and accessories. This madness last some 10 seconds or less.

    If left alone for some 10 seconds, the pointer will calm down, and stay put, again responding and functioning normally.

    Mouse is a year old Genius Easy Mouse Pro, and is clean and debris free inside, and has worked well for 12 months or more.

    Mouse pad is also clean and has never given trouble before.

    It does this at least 3 times daily.
    In every program, irrespective of type running, games, Internet surfing. everything. When CPU is hot or cold, no difference.

    My system is: P4 1.7Ghz
    512Mb DDR Ram
    40GB HD
    32MB Riva TNT T2 3d screen card
    ASRock MB with onboard sound
    OS= WinXP Professional.

    I run a Norton Disk Doctor diagnostic and defrag weekly, and have the latest uptodate Norton Antivirus, with firewalls, so not likely to be a virus.

    This problem is distrurbing and irritating.

    Please help.

    is it an optical mouse? sometimes, if they have slow refresh rates, they jump up into corners and stuff, but i've never heard of going around and clicking.

    could it be spyware?
