I should have my Draco in a few weeks. Now I've spoken about the fact that I want to put a sling on it for stabilization before. However, I figured I could put a loop of paracord around the pistol grip and make a simple place to attach the sling. But someone pointed out that the difference of the few inches from the rear of the pistol grip compared to the rear of the receiver might affect aiming. So I'd like to install a sling mount/swivel to the back of the reciver.

I'm just curious what SPECIFIC parts I'll need and how to do it?

    Thanks!:)

Alright, I suppose that has to be brought up in any thread the Draco is mentioned....and now that it's out of your system...please share what I actually asked about.

    Thanks!

Sounds like you are all ready to drill holes in your receiver rather than try to mount a sling to your pistol grip, about 0.5-0.75 inches lower than a standard side mount on a folding stock AK.

Drill away if you have your heart set on doing this.

I suggest you try it as is before attempting to reinvent the wheel.

But here's how one gadget-freak mounted his single-point sling between the base of the receiver and the top of the grip:

My money says that gun's owner lives in California. ;)

I'll certainly try it, but if it does result in a lower aim as mentioned, I want to have the supplies to install a swivel/mount.

    Thanks!

In case you don't have a folding AK available, here's a pic to show the sling mounts at the pivot point, within an inch of the interface between the receiver and the grip.

Now that's interesting. If you look at the top of the pistol grip it looks like there is a black ring there bordering the receiver. I wonder if anyone makes a sling mount that positions the sling in a slightly raised position? That is, the mounint point where the sling would attach would be up around the receiver somewhere while the actual attachment point for the "mount" would be the top of the pistol grip.

    Thanks!

    Two things...

    1) I'm still curious to know exactly how a swivel/mount is attached and what hardware is needed?

    2) Does any company sell good/durable loops or hardware specifically made to act as a sling mount between the pistol grip and receiver on an AK?

    Thanks!

I ran across this pic of a pimped up Draco (new furniture) and a single point sling mounted.

Thanks for the pic Chute. I am a fan of the Ergo grip. I just didn't know they made them for AK's.

I am going to try the pistol grip sling mount method however the two things I still need to know is...

    1) What mount/material is the most durable and will stand up to the pressure and use of acting as a connection point?

    2) Will any mount, specifically made for the purpose of using on an AK pistol, raise the connection point to directly in back of the receiver instead of in back of the grip?

EDIT: BTW, what kind of sling is that in the pic? Seems to be popular for the AK pistols.

    Thanks!
