Motorola MT 1000 with MURS Frequencies

A newby here, so please be gentle.

I would appreciate some comments on this combination. There are some nice radios available currently that have been reprogrammed and inspected. They seem to run from about $100 to $160.00 each, depending upon accessories, batteries, condition and warranty.

How many individual MURS (Multiple Use Radio Service, which does not require a license) frequencies are there?

Most reports I have seen indicate a range of approx. 4-5 miles in populated areas.

Should I be looking at new equipment instead?

    Any Comments greatly appreciated.

I have a lot of commercial motorola radios with MURS frequencies in them. Just be sure that the radio doesn't put out more than 2 watts on a MURS frequency and you will be legal. I get a pretty decent range with motorola radios. The receivers in them are really good so if you use them in a big city you don't get intermod.
