My buddy this week bought a very nice Harley. He said they knocked of $3K when he walked in the door. This is due to dealerships desperate to make a sale. Google shows this is a big problem all manufacturers are going through in the US. Even with a smoking economy.

Everything goes in cycles. I guess the peak was due to the OCC shows and such. When that died, so did motorcycle sales...

I went to get the Transit van worked on and Ford was giving away Mustangs.

I saw where the KC plant is shipping jobs to Thailand. What happened to Made in America?

The ironic thing is that "American Chopper" is back on the air. But they even said on the show that business isn't what it once was. Same for Paul Jr's shop.

(Now - that could all be made-for-TV bullcrap too).

I do think that the TV shows followed the wave rather than generated it.

Millennials don't buy choppers... They drive a Prius for their lattes and social media fix.
Harley's and rice rockets are trends which come and go.

    motorcycling is not for everyone.
the youngsters of this generation are more couch potato video games than rugged individuals.
caught in the rain, i just keep riding, the snowflakes would melt.

the kids are experiencing life on their big screen TVs and live on their phones. not an option on a motorcycle.

when i ride i smell peppermint, wild flowers, but also pig farms.
face gets hit with multi legged, winged creatures.
every cager tries to see if they can hit the bullseye painted on my back.
can't send a text or answer the phone!
all way out of their comfort zone.

hard for droopy drawers to throw a leg over a saddle, pants at the knees won't allow it.
no place to put those humongous bass speakers.

sometimes i am glad to be old.

I don't think Harley's Thailand move is going to fix anything, specially if Trump makes even the smallest negative comment after he endorse them for being an American made company.:faint:

Harley’s are cool and I’ve had them but not worth the price. I’ve been wanting a dual sport like a KLR650 to be able to ride the woods or road. A lot more versatile for a lot less money.

Agreed, this is also an issue for the automobile industry, not just the motorcycle builders.

I remember when a used Harley would cost almost as much as a new one. Now used Harleys are dirt cheap in my area.

I have also looked into the dual sport bikes. If I buy another bike, it will be one that I can take on the trails.

This subject has been thoroughly hashed out on some of the HD forums. Many different opinions there, as there are here.

One point; I don’t think any of the HD’s built overseas will make it back here.

72% of all Harleys ever sold are still on the road...

...the rest were able to make it home safely :)

Some of the millennials don't yet have access to the real money that a hog, would cost.

Get one they’re great! I put 37000 on my 2012 and it still runs well and goes everywhere. Paid 6500 new out the door.

Harley is antiquated and overpriced. There’s a glut of used bikes and better deals on Japanese machines that are more reliable and perform well.
