I have a laptop that I am going to sell, and I need recommendations on how to prepare it.

Don't want to reimage the thing, my plan is to just remove my name as the admin, remove all the programs I put on it.

What I need is a program that will wipe all the open space while leaving installed programs and the operating system intact, so that any personal info I delete can't be read off the hard drive. Kind of like a selective autoclave.

    any suguesstions?

I could also use any other tips/tricks on how to get a laptop ready to sell.

    thanks for the help

    end of line.

I have a question: Why are you leaving the OS intact?

Perhaps I'm just a cranky bastard, but I would have done a secure wipe of the entire hard drive and installed a free OS such as Xandros on the drive just to give the buyer something to see when they flip the switch.

Windows leaves an awful lot of temporary files and swap files laying around for me to feel comfortable doing anything less.

Know matter how hard you try you will not get all personal info off, unless you reimage especialy if you have XP installed on it.
