Pink slips sent to thousands of Calif. teachers
By ROBIN HINDERY, Associated Press Writer

    Monday, March 15, 2010 at 1:11 p.m.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California school districts have issued layoff notices to nearly 22,000 teachers and other school employees. :wow:

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell announced this year's pink slip tally Monday, the legal deadline for school districts to send preliminary layoff notices.

Not all the threatened layoffs will be carried out. Of the 26,000 teachers who received pink slips at this time last year, 60 percent ended up losing their jobs.

Education officials expect this year's actual job losses to be high, given the state's continued budget crisis and less money becoming available from the federal government.

What the U.S. needs is a good group of auditors. We need to know where our money is being spent so we can make better decisions.

There are a good number of teachers that should be laid off but I'll bet there are other (stupid) things that money is being wasted on.

And yet California is always near the top on the amount of money spent per student.

How do other states spend less money and get better results?:dunno:

Wonder how many of those are teachers, and how many are school system administrators.

I'd be willing to bet that once the dust settles, the administrators (who perform the vital function of doing... ok, practically nothing) will fare better than those who actually teach.
