That guy looks like a cross between Bill Gates and Alfred E. Neuman.

Imagine how some salty and/or busy BPD cop, without any political aspirations, might've taken what seemed to be a "routine" report.

Imagine Ofc Andy Renko taking the report.

A little Internet browsing reveals that Murphy never wore a badge as a sworn officer in the NOPD. I know, hard to believe given his steely eyes and commanding presence.

I didn't get the impression that he'd ever been an actual sworn peace officer, but was an appointed admin person (and a former grants manager, effectiveness asst, etc from his Linkedin profile).

Yeah my guess is he's a rubber gun bureaucrat with enough clout to get hired.

In its day that was a hell of a Dept. and they usually promoted from within, guys who had actually been the Police.

Heck, my understanding is our former Chief, Willie Williams was unable to pass the CA lawman's examination.

Clearly, you don't have to pass a test or have been Bumper on patrol (The Blue Knight) to get ahead in major city police departments.

    Ok joking aside.
SUV with 4 pulls up. Two with guns get out. (Not sure if one gun, was it in hand or shirt lifted exposing it)
You are in open with your wife. If two have guns in hand "the odds are not in your favor". Are the other two armed? Shotgun? Mac?
Even if only one flashes a gun. If my wife, or family near me tossing the cash is my preferred option. Doubt they could get $.25 for my phone. If gun pulled by one, he seemed willing to act I might try to shoot him, next guy, SUV.... (And hope wife gets clear like she is supposed to)

That option has low chance of ending well.
Let's say I'm perfect. Nail the guy with the gun, other jumps back in SUV flees... Best case 3 months life is crap. If my robber is a minority (percentage wise likely) survives (likely) life is going to suck... The credit cards $50 max loss, phone (who cares) maybe $200 cash.

what I'm getting at is unless I think our lives in imminent danger. I will hand it over. (Dang sure if loved ones in line of fire)
