The government will protect them.
Well, if the current city council acts contrary to the majority desires and interests of the residents, those residents/voters can always replace them at the ballot box and elect others who will then undo any silly local laws/ordinances.
Not enough voters willing to replace them or undo the new laws? Well, then maybe the aggrieved "majority" isn't the majority it thinks it is. How aggreived are they? Enough to make them consider picking up stakes (if possible) and moving to a city that might be more accommodating?
Now, if the new local law may be contrary to an existing state law? A matter which can be addressed in court.
Not my state, nor my city, though. Not my business. Not really.
By reading the news story, they aren't banning guns citywide, as the thread title suggests, but they are redefining what public places persons can and cannot carry firearms; There are similar laws in a lot of places, some of which are very gun-friendly, so this is nothing new, and unless there is already a state law superseding this, it's probably going to hold up....
Here's the link to the news story that gives more detail:
Missoula, the Birkenstock wearing old hippie laughingstock capitol of Montana
Remember Morton Grove IL?
Then, many years later ...
There are some similar laws in Florida, especially involving public meetings.
Florida, and other states as well....
Wait, what if you apply this line of thought to President Trump’s EO re: “subject to the jurisdiction”?
The voters decided on Trump. Anyone who doesn’t like it can pick up and move to another country that might be more accommodating to their communist tendencies.
For those like me, who have no intention of spending 8 minutes on a YouTube video, here is a news article:
I guessed Missoula before I even clicked in the link. It’s the Boulder of Montana. Typical left wing college town. Too bad they are usually run by idiots.
The thread title is realllly misleading.....
It's just politics, man.
Hey, freedom of choice of others (within established law) isn't something in which I typically feel it's my business to interfere.
Also, if those folks in America want to leave and move to a socialist or communist country, there's no doubt a LOT of other folks who would probably gladly trade places with them.
This guy is engaging in a bit of fake news, or at least hyperbole, himself.
Most states already ban guns at polling places and govt meetings. Not really such big a deal IMO. The thread title is misleading.
It was designed to trick folks into watching an 8 minute YouTube video.
Some of us can read faster than that.
Yeah, I saw that too, and figured that once the sensationalist, the-sky-is-falling folks got over their angst, they'd realize that there's not exactly a dearth of similar narrow restrictions in place across the country. Still, as a local law it's something that concerns the residents and whether they want their council members doing such things on their behalf.
I much prefer to read my news than to watch the video of someone else giving it. I made less than a minute of the above posted video before calling it.
Surely no one sat through an 8 minute video?! Please clap.
