I also bought mine new, but closer to 2016 so there might have been a generational difference that we're not aware of. Being the kind of guy who can't leave things alone, I disassembled and reassembled my KSG, then broke out a pack of each type of mini shell I have on hand (slug, bird and buck). Slugs do stick out a bit further than birdshot but what I didn't notice before was that mini buckshot shells are actually longer than mini birdshot as well. Using birdshot, I can fit 24+1 but using the buckshot or slugs I only get 22+1. No biggie. 23 rounds is still a ridiculously high capacity for a shotgun this compact.
