Maybe it’s the k$36 per year mortgage on the house that she probably had to put down k$100- k$150 on.

I don’t think she got that big a retention bonus.

And don’t get me started on her student loans; wonder if they are paid off ?

I wonder if she claimed all that on her tax returns ?

I foresee a tax audit in her future.

It would seem you’re very out of touch with what military officers make.

The 20 year old RV can be bought right now today for 15-20k.

The Porsche is worth 40k. I have Spc’s driving more expensive trucks (2020 Chevy 1500 diesel is over 50k).

Plus she gets BAH with dependents, so she would only have to make up a small amount of money, or her husband would have, to pay for the house (which really isn’t that expensive in 2020)

On top of that medical officers can make up to several thousand dollars per month extra in medical special pay, and have bonuses that can be over a hundred thousand dollars.

2 years is a hell of a lot more than anyone did for the mess in 2008 that cost people a lot more than 2 billion “health care” dollars.

It is light. But typically, fraud crimes don't net big sentences, no matter who or how many they hurt.
I went to a conference last fall where an AUSA and an FBI agent did a presentation on the tricare fraud case. There were a lot of moving parts on that case nationwide, both civilian and military people involved. Many arrests. I'm guessing this woman was cooperating with the investigation to some degree.

I'm with ya on the car and RV, that's no big deal but the house seems a bit dubious. $750K houses are still very expensive in 99% of the markets in America and they definitely are in Enid OK. She's an FNP, which are a dime a dozen. I have a hard time believing they get much in incentive pay when the civilian market for them is saturated.

Of course, I say that as having no first-hand knowledge of how military pay works as I was never in the military. I know pay scales are public information, is there a repository of info on bonuses and the like?

Any place with big mil bases, esp Air Force bases with big hospitals tends to have markets for well paid officers.

All of the bonus pay is public, but I don’t know if they publish what people got/were eligible for.

0-3 pay, over 6 years (average time) is 6,127 a month. 6900 if she made 04 on time.

Plus 1400 a month tax free (BAS) (16k a year Tax free) So they, would only have to come up with 1600(ish) a month to afford the house. Not exactly hard to do when you make 6K a month, and likely dual income from her husband.

NP’s depending on term they sign up for right now today can get up to 35k bonus. (I don’t know when she enlisted, but may have brought more in the past).

You should probably quit before someone thinks you’re serious.

Well, she did plead guilty and was forced to disgorge the admitted theft, so maybe Uncle Sam was not paying her as much money as you think.

" Moss was sentenced Monday to 24 months in prison and three years of supervised release; she was also ordered to pay $622,459 -- the amount she made in the scheme -- in restitution, according to the Justice Department "

I am sure the IRS will get it all sorted out.

Paying back what you got caught stealing is almost no punishment at all. Shouldn't the amount of punishment be something like 3x the amount of the theft or more?

While that’s true, it doesn’t really have anything to do with what I said.

You were trying to point out this big extra lavish life she was living that was in excess of what she could afford because she has a 20 year old RV, and a 4 year old sport suv.

In reality though. A 20 year old RV, a 4 year old car worth less than 40k and a house aren’t unattainable items to a dual income family making the money she was. Especially when the .mil gives you half your house payment tax free.

A minimum of 6127 a month or 6900 as an 04, plus A minimum of 1653 in untaxed BAH and BAS.

Mortgage on a k$750 house is k$40+ a year. Add real estate taxes and insurance on top of that.

Most banks want a debt to income ratio of 35% or so. I doubt she could get a loan with those numbers. Of course we still don't know hubby's income.

My first house as an O-3 cost k$35. That would be k$202 in today's dollars.

Still not seeing her affording a k$750 house.
