The Pentagon wants a blimp that can carry 1800-man "unit of action" (basically a battalion-sized quick reaction force) anywhere on the planet, get there in four days or less, flying non-stop and without refueling. I did some quick crunching using some broad SWAGs and figure the envelope on this thing would have to be 80 times the volume of the Goodyear blimp (at least 16 mil. cu. ft. vs. a mere 200,000). Id like to get the contract to build the hangars for those things! http://184.108.40.206/ EDIT: A bit more research shows their projected minimum payload will be 500 tons so my SWAG of 900,000 lbs was a bit light. The envelope probably will be closer to 20 million cu. ft. minimum.
