My wife's Accord needs a new starter. It is making a noise right when it is started (right after it engages - kind of a rattle) and is getting rather slow to start. With the slow starting I believe it is the starter.

I checked around and found one on Amazon for about $85. Everywhere else they are about twice that or more. This one had really good reviews (86% 4 and 5 stars, 92% 3 star or better, biggest complaint being that it is sold as new when it is a reman but still performs and I knew that going in, OR that it doesn't fit a different model car than I have) so I decided to take a chance. I've also got a rebuild kit coming for the original starter (replaced two years ago - bad contacts) to have as a backup. Probably sell the one that comes out as a core.

They say you get what you pay for. I guess we are about to find out.

If it has good reviews, and not just three of them, you should be ok.
At any rate, you have a backup plan. Doesn't sound stupid to me.
Actually, that's overachievement for a Clemson grad.

2x Clemson grad, I'll have you know.

That means I can screw up the plan AND the execution!

I Understand... Just got done with one of these myself.

Found a great deal on Prevagen. Looked like a US based seller, great price!

Got the bottle, looked good on the outside - tamper protection seal in place.

Open the cap - Uh Oh!

The foil seal with the little plastic opener tab had been heated to the point that it was all melted together. Took out the trusty blade and carefully skinned it open - and inside of the foil seal showed areas of brown overheating.

Amazon issued a return ticket immediately, and it was at UPS within an hour, and the refund hit my account a few days later.

Point being - Yes, Amazon does somethings right, and they did me good this time!

Good Luck - I hope it works out excellent for you!

Find an auto electric shop in your town. Most places have at least one.

They might have the starter you need on hand.

Looks to me like you made an informed decision. Best of luck.
A stupid decision would have been buying a Ford starter and then coming on here to ask if it will bolt up to your Honda.

Took my Accord to a non-dealer (but reputable garage) for starter problems. The mechanic tried 29 times to start and it worked fine but on the 30th time it turned very slowly.

I had a Honda factory starter put on and IIRC was >$500 complete with installation.

New starter installed. So far so good. Had to replace the intake hose (between the airbox and the throttle body) because it had gotten brittle and tore while I was removing it. Another $40 but that would have happened anyway. I took the opportunity to replace the air filter while I was there.

I asked the Honda dealer if that part broke frequenty and he said "well, we keep them in stock." Said a lot of shops include replacing it in the quote for work in that area since they know it will tear anyway.

But Honda - why did you have to put the starter under the damn INTAKE? REALLY HONDA?????

There are plenty of vehicles our there that to change the headlight bulb requires the removal of the front bumper. I'd have a huge problem with this, anything that needs to be replaced every couple of years shouldn't be that difficult to do.

My Lexus had the starter under the intake as well, except it was a V8, so the whole intake assembly had to come off.

On this one you can either remove the front tires or grow three more elbows. Pain in the rear.

One Corvette had it's starter in there (the original ZR1 I think). Ironically that made it both harder to fix AND more likely to fail....

No squawk about Amazon, I use them frequently but for car parts, I don't think you can beat Rock Auto. A very comprehensive selection of prices for a vast array of makes. Don

You'd rather it was on the back of the engine, tight between the engine and the car's firewall ? (Saturn) ... :wow:

Damn - forgot about them. Just peeked and they have very good prices.

If this starter fails I'll probably get a new Mitsuba from them, or the AC Delco with the solenoid modification.
