Like it or not. What you do with in your home should be left there. I don’t agree with it, but like gun control if you allow them, they will gladly take your rights.
He should’ve simply taken it down. Wonder how many black officers have black power fists and black power garb in their homes ? Point is if he was black and had black panther flags flying. No one would even care. In any case he’s not very smart .

This is one of those jobs where good decision making/judgment is an absolute must.

Same here. The guy is a ****tard deserving of zero respect or sympathy.

    That said....

Until recently, we lived in a free country and you could believe in whatever asinine things you wanted.

Displaying that **** in his own home is his business. No matter what kind of moron in makes him.

If, ON THE JOB, he displays bias or breaks other rules, he should be fired for that.

If he was interested in historical artifacts, you'd think he would have an actual, old period era Confederate flag on display.

But I'll bet you $1.00 it's the flag from the Dukes of Hazzard General Lee instead, the Stars and Bars and he got it from Walmart on sale.

The only history it commemorates would be the poor decision making in his past.

The “context matters” crowd is the same crowd that call each other n*ggers all day long but want to crucify a man of another race if he said it once 30 years ago. The problem with the context matters crowd is who gets chosen to determine the context which means it’s always a moving target.

This happened in the now, not 30 years ago. Just because some abuse the concept of context doesn't mean context doesn't matter or is non existent.

The PD that employed him and did the investigation presumably now knows the context and it's proper application, and either fired him as a result or as a result of deciding to throw him under the bus.

They're supposed to release the investigation shortly, should provide more insight into which option it was.

KKK affiliation and white people using the N word has been considered inappropriate for a long time, that context hasn't changed any time recently.

Considered inappropriate by whom? Who gets to decide what is appropriate and what isn’t? What does the color of a person’s skin have to do with deciding whether or not a word is inappropriate?
By all means tell me what the constitutional guidelines are to determining “context”.
Can you not see the house you’ve built on quicksand or do you think “context” will never be applied to anything you deem not offensive?

Public perception; not what it actually is, but instead what it appears to be. Life has changed over the years and especially with the advent of social-media and the internet as a news source.

    Good God, man!

Either do the SIMPLE search or just.... let it go.

    I’m a Black Southerner.

    I am enthralled by history.

I read everything and I have studied the White Separatists, Black Separatists, Jewish, Muslim and Hindu extremists... you name it. Religion? Yep. Luciferianism and Satanism? That, too.

I do not keep those kinds of books on display because people - your AVERAGE citizen - ain’t too darned bright. They MAKE ASSUMPTIONS. Bad assumptions.

Keep “your business” to your self. There’s no way to display what he displayed to the general public and not have it misconstrued (if that’s really what it is - and it may very well be).

Poor decision on his part and probably a poor decision by his department.

Fighting words are not protected by the first amendment, and white people made them fighting words when they coined that word as a racist slur. That’s always been the context when you say it for over a hundred years.

Do you suppose that’s the same meaning when they say it between friends? Do you have difficulty distinguishing between friends teasing you by calling you names in jest vs when someone is trying to insult you with the same name?

Do you long to swear in Church, too? Or suddenly you understand the different context depending on time, place, and audience in that case?

You are a typical “context” person. You have absolutely no idea how to answer the basic reasoning questions I asked. Sad.

It's submitted, but they're at something of an impasse, apparently the old coot of a professor won't accept Google as a source. Well, all the sources.

It’s called getting off your lazy arse. If you want the information - that takes all of four minutes to find - then get it.

Only an anti-intellectual would immediately make the claims that you did.

No one is writing a Master’s thesis here.

You merely wish to throw ad hominem as opposed to having a dialogue.

    Get over yourself.
