If somehow SHTF in that Ponderosa (however unlikely), the guy with the AR15 would have been the most prepared.

Just like if someone were to say "I only CC when I need it," someone else would be a smartass and say you never know when you'll need your weapons and you should carry all the time. But when some guy starts legally packing an AR, its suddenly too much. I guess I'm still learning, but it seems I need something more deadly than a knife but less deadly than an AR.

If you don't want people walking around with assault rifles, make it illegal..........

My comment was,"They were doing fine until the guy showed up with the AR slung on his back...", which reflected the statement by the Owner of the Ponderosa.

What that means is the open carry gathering at the Ponderosa was going on just like it had before; a group of men and women open carrying and enjoying a meal. It would have continued as before if the AR had not been introduced according to the property owner.

If I was intent on mayhem, the first person I'd ambush would be the guy with the AR slung across his back.
Casually stroll up behind his table, draw from my pocket and...BANG!, his dining partners would be wearing his brain matter.
Now, I'm the man with the blood splattered AR.

I can draw and fire a holstered handgun more quickly than I can put a slung-on-back rifle into action.

    Something to consider.

It is not the stand of all who open carry. I submit the number taking that absolute position are not the majority, just the most vocal and those for whom the risks of that position are acceptable.
