MEU

I have some questions about the Marine Expeditionary Unit, are they a SOC force? If they're not, are they like normal marines or do they have better training? What type of training are they given and how does one join?

A MEU is basically a task force; actually, it IS a task force of combined arms. As the smallest Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF), each MEU typically consists of a Marine infantry battalion, a helicopter/tiltrotor squadron or composite squadron, support and logistics elements, and a command element.

Once the units have been tasked to take part in their rotation in the MEU, there is additional training in the months leading up to deployment. MEUs have been staffed and deployed for so long that it's really not unusual.

How does one join? www.marines.mil and find your local recruiter.

Not all MEU's are SOC.

Side note, I was with BLT 1/8 as the ground combat element of the 26th MAU(SOC), when the designation changed to MEU(SOC) in Feb 1988.

First you join the Marines and make it through basic training. Until you've done that, you are getting way ahead of yourself. Only a small minority of Americans could get as far as infantry private. By the time you do that, you'll know all you need to know about hat you can do next.
