Beautiful to be sure but the piano simply doesn't replace the guitar in my mind. Maybe I'm too beholden to the original on such an iconic song.

Very True, but amazing to say the least when done on the piano.

Several years ago, my wife picked up a Metallica song book where all the songs had been transcribed for piano. I was unaware of her purchase. She memoraized several songs and suprised me on my birthday with a short recital. I am a big Metallica fan and she is a great pianist. It was a beautiful and considerate gift.

Nice thanks, I like bands that can actually play thear insturments. Metalica is one of them. lotts of classical influences in metal.
    This guy is pretty good.

    THIS.

Hearing them in a classical version, especially "sober" from TOOL, is unbelievable. TOOL's songs are a little creepy to begin with, that would make great background music to a horror scene in a move.

Doubtless many of you have heard of Apocalyptica. They've done some fantastic stuff playing Metallica on the cello. "Plays Metallica by four cellos" is a fantastic CD.

Yep.. I dig them too. The majority of my musical background is piano and cello. Pretty much anyone that covers music that was written as rock, metal, alternative or whatever with a classical instrument, I like.

Not to keep harpin' on it (no pun intended ), there's coincidentally a group that does a string tribute to Tool. They're called Anotomica. Also good stuff.
