Remember he had to give up his firearms because of the domestic violence? Well, Inside Edition just disclosed that he has a 9mm Glock, Beretta, 12 gauge and a "rifle." How legal is it for the police department to release personal firearm information to the public? We are talking about California here.....

A lot of things the police do are a matter of public record as it should be.

My guess is this is one of those things.

I disagree. It seems to me there are a lot of things that are public record that shouldn't be, and vice versa. Not sure what value Mel Gibson's gun collection has to the public. If there is any, it's minutia..and the last thing I want the police doing is flinging around private gun records.

He's a lightweight as far as firearms ownership is concerned. I probably could have lost track of that many over the years.

There is actually very little that can be protected in CA when it comes to police records. There have been a number of cases in CA where the news media has been pushing the issue along with a few citizen groups. They have come to police departments asking for weeks worth of reports, etc. Police departments have statutory deadlines to meet them unless of course the request is too large to process in that time.

Just about the only things that would be redacted in that report would be the names of domestic violence victims if they request confidentiality, address, phone numbers, and various ID numbers of involved parties. Some meida sources have been trying to get full reports for homicides, etc. that are still under investigation. That means witnesses' names are out in the street on gang killings. So far the cities and counties have been able to hold that off but it as suspect is sitting in jail it is fair game.

Remember when you want openess in governement this is what you get.

He was just accused of domestic violence, so he was required to turn over his firearms. That's what pisses me off more than anything here.

Yes it is and what I prefer. There should be a process though to not provide information but it should require a significant amount of proof that releasing it would be reckless. This decision should be made by a judge subject to appeal.

I don't agree with it either. If the person wants to get a restraining order that is fine but to pull constitutional rights based on an accusation is a bad precedence. FL is very gun friendly and that is the law here to.

If someone files a FOIA request for the relevant report, no way for the Police to prevent it. The report will be released. This type of report will contain, at the very least, a property report. The property report details said property (gun make, model, caliber, etc).

The rest of them were lost overboard in a simple canoe accident.

FOIA my butt, this is entirely the fault of the evil police. I heard they were dropping lists of his guns from helicopters over LA. Damn JBT stormtroopers.
