I say go for it. But I hope they get a real conservative...some of these Ivy League types aren't conservative enough for me...

This is going to be the political fight of my lifetime. Miktch is talking like he's realizing it will be the political fight of his career as well...

“In the last midterm election before Justice Scalia’s death in 2016, Americans elected a Republican Senate majority because we pledged to check and balance the last days of a lame-duck president’s second term. We kept our promise,” McConnell continued. “Since the 1880s, no Senate has confirmed an opposite-party president’s Supreme Court nominee in a presidential election year.”

McConnell added that “by contrast, Americans reelected our majority in 2016 and expanded it in 2018 because we pledged to work with President Trump and support his agenda, particularly his outstanding appointments to the federal judiciary.”

“Once again, we will keep our promise,” he said. “President Trump’s nominee will receive a vote on the floor of the United States Senate.”

With God as my witness, if Mitch can get this done, I'll contribute $1000 to his next reelection campaign.

Why does everything turn political immediately? We can simply say the nation will mourn her, yada yada and any talk of a potential replacement can wait until after her funeral. We can still vet people in the background.

2 "Republican" Senators have already said no. And Collins is just a matter of time (and maybe money).

    Mitt.

I guess you could hold your breath since it's "from sources." But I won't. This was as sure a bet as "rain is wet."

If it gets to 4 Republicans who can't be trusted, then forget it. ALL Democrats in the Senate know there's no fence jumping right now if they want to live.

Republicans need to take the gloves off and quit trying to be buddies with the democrats... they kick them in the nuts every time they try to be pals...

Not a good move, IMO. This is going to alienate folks. The DNC was doing a superb job of pissing and alienating voters off, so the GOP decides this is a good hold my beer moment.

The Democrats are always lock step and on the same page. We always have a few Republicans that can't wait to stab us in the back. They show up when we need them the most and **** us.

Ten years ago, during Obama's Presidency, I would have agreed with you, but that was before the Dem party went completely bat **** insane.

IIRC, Grassley said a month or two ago he wouldn't even allow the Judicial Committee to hold hearings this late. Of course, he may have forgotten that he was no longer chairman. Still, I'd guess that he means he's a "no"?

I will be stunned if McConnell can get a true conservative through. I really don't see it.

The left would then want to display her body ala Lenin in perpetuity to say her funeral has not yet been completed.

Think about it. When would her funeral be if that was said? And the “excuse” would be Covid because many other funerals were not permitted to happen.

Dang, RBG hasn't even reached room temperature yet and McConnell is already looking to confirm a new justice.

Schumer tweets about not filling the seat before he sent his condolences.
