I know your minimum cartridges for self defense are the 38 and 9mm.

I know that the 50 AE, Smith 500, Smith 460, 454 Casull and 44 Magnum are hunting cartridges for the most part. But it raises a question for me:

What would you consider the maximum without being excessive, or is there a limit, in your opinion?

The first three are going to be huge, probably impractical for concealed carry. Ruger in .454 with short barrel and .44 Mag Ruger or S&W 4" are carry-able but will start wearing on most folks with daily carry. To get rounds that are not likely to over-penetrate in street or home defense, and controllable in rapid fire, all but the strongest shooters will end up with .45 Colt in the .454 and .44 Special in the .44 Magnum anyway. A significant volume of training in fast, accurate shooting will take a major toll on most shooters.

There's no set limit except common sense and what the individual shooter can handle.
