The only females we saw in bootcamp was the Navy corpsman who gave us shots.
No more e tools . Fox holes are not allowed. Both sexes in the hole might be fun.
If that's what boot camp looks like I will try to get an age waiver...
I don't know about Parris Island, but Camp Pendleton can't be cheap to operate and maintain just because of its location. Sell that prime real estate, take the money and set up shop somewhere in the Gulf Coast so that the Marines can get their amphibious training done, but at a much cheaper location.
As long as it gets moved out of California.
It's a congressional mandate that Parris Island fully integrate within 5 years and that San Diego integrate within 8 years.
well done, well done indeed.
Military bases bring in too many jobs and money to an area. The senators whose district those bases are in will never give them up.
There always have been and always will be questions about promotions.
1. how do you compare and promote two different people - a person controlling a drone targeting someone in Syria but doing it from Nevada and a person who is a platoon leader on the ground in Syria??
2. historically, the US military do not recognize the contributions of women to the military. The women who test flew and ferried planes to Great Britain in WW2 were not given pensions.
3. Grace Brewster Murray Hopper (née Murray December 9, 1906 – January 1, 1992) was an American computer scientist and United States Navy rear admiral. One of the first programmers of the Harvard Mark I computer, she was a pioneer of computer programming who invented one of the first linkers. She was still a Commodore when the rank was abolished in the US Navy! How do you deal with promotions of people like this versus the guy who commands a destroyer?
4. At one time, promotions of officers in the US Army was done solely on the basis of seniority. So, you might be a Captain for 20 years. Then, the Army started keeping a private survey of officer cadets at West Point for potential merit promotions when they would ever be allowed. This is how D.D, Eisenhower was skipped over about 50 senior officers as WW2 came along. He was profiled on the private list.
Separate comment, not directed at Quijibo. This is the opportunity for people to snort that women don't belong in combat. For those people, they are behind the times. Previously, I posted an article about women serving in special operations. Here another person from 2015:
A West Point valedictorian who received her diploma in May from President Obama. A Rhodes Scholar who studies at Oxford and trains with the university's rowing team. The first American woman to graduate from French Commando School.Jan 15, 2015
I didn't care if my backup was a man, a woman, a Jew, a Black, a Muslim. If you don't want the best person for the job, that's on you.
We had a female platoon pass by our platoon once.
We could smell them before they turned the corner around a building and came into view.
It wasn't pleasant.
Now, the corpsman at BMC... that's a different story! She was fairly buxom and would check our pulses/blood pressure/whatever like this...
...except that she came up further on the arm. The end result was that we got a little side-boob action against the wrist/forearm.
I'm sure that she knew what she was doing. And God bless her, she was doing the Lord's work!
Where will they train the Space Marines?
i remembered Private Coats who was a female recycler (Left leg was in a cast) and she was the gopher clerk for various officers and NCOs. She was about 5’7”, Midwest farmer daughter type with massive mammary glands.
funny how some things stuck in one’s mind after all these decades. Can’t remember the name of one of my drill sergeants but still recalled every details about Private Coats.
Boot camp for west coast is in San Diego not Camp Pendleton. Camp Pendleton is for Infantry training and homeport for many units.
I dunno why current system is not working. Not that many female marines are entering to justify adding to San Diego in my opinion.
Somebody somewhere had to justify their position by coming up with an idea.
Good God, what is wrong with everyone?
Closing Paris Island???????
You're right. MCRD is further south than Camp Pendleton. I kept lumping those two together.
I had an unfair advantage. I went to boot camp for Navy in San Diego in 74 across MCRD fence and my grandson graduated MCRD last Feb lol
I thought all female recruits went to Parris Island?
That was back when we had the Commies contained, and the M1 Garand ruled the world.
To get an idea of what the USMC training was like, search "USMC Ribbion Creek incident".
A DI force marched his Platoon into the swamp and some of them died.
They were at the rifle range.
My Platoon was also at the range but we didn't know what happened. The recruits were completely isolated.
Ridiculous idea. Stop the ************* of America!
