"Marijuana devastated Colorado, don’t legalize it nationally

    Jeff Hunt | Opinion contributorUpdated

Arrests are up. We still have a black market. And people are in danger.

Last week, Senator Cory Booker introduced the Marijuana Justice Act in an effort to legalize marijuana across the nation and penalize local communities that want nothing to do with this dangerous drug. This is the furthest reaching marijuana legalization effort to date and marks another sad moment in our nation’s embrace of a drug that will have generational consequences.

Our country is facing a drug epidemic. Legalizing recreational marijuana will do nothing that Senator Booker expects. We heard many of these same promises in 2012 when Colorado legalized recreational marijuana.

In the years since, Colorado has seen an increase in marijuana related traffic deaths, poison control calls, and emergency room visits. The marijuana black market has increased in Colorado, not decreased. And, numerous Colorado marijuana regulators have been indicted for corruption."

It's funny to me that the pot-smoking hippies even WANT the .gov's approval to get high. Quite the leap from the '60s, I'd say.

It's also funny to me that only .government could screw up weeeeeeeeed. Pretty obvious if there is a black market (is that racist?) that they are charging too much. The potheads ran the show better. It reminds me of movies- why is it that upon learning that their brakes don't work do they suddenly start driving like morons? Suddenly now that it is legal people are dying?

How is it possible that illegal weed people can still turn a profit despite interdiction, and yet the government loses so much money that it defies belief?

Then the MJ store owners should have gone into another line of business. Perhaps sell munchie?

Nobody forced these people to open MJ stores. They jumped into into the MJ business with both eyes open. Find another line of work.

This is what drugs do. They destroy.

Does that include alcohol, tobacco, and coffee? Last I checked those were all drugs as well. Alcohol sure does destroy a lot. Tobacco kills old people but not kids.

Touch my coffee though, and it's on, 'cuz.

If we don't legalize marijuana on a national level, what will all of the top pot head doctors, lawyers, electrical engineers, CPAs, business owners and CEOs do?

Wait a minute. There aren't any. Never mind.

Can a poster from CO check in? I want to make sure your state is not devastated as the OP suggests. I'd hate to think it was a bit of sensationalism.

I know on GNG there are some who love to say they know someone who knows someone who is a really successful businessperson/academia/whatever who uses MJ regularly and that has not harmed them.

Given my real world world experience, I only wonder how much more successful those same people would have been if they hadn't indulged on a regular basis. One thing to point to what they are. Another to point to what they could have been but for their MJ use.

    < Want more government control

    Pick one --

If you are against weed would you start to use it if it was legal?

So the only thing stopping you from grabbing the bong is because it is illegal?

GOVERNMENT - please protect me from myself!

I was there for work recently...it surprised me the amount of people that were half stoned and some had kids around...

Sen Booker is an idiot and should be called out publicly for it...he thinks legalizing MJ will help...all it will do is open up the market for additional drug abuse....

In more ways than just this. Kalifornians have moved into Denver-Boulder like metastasizing cancer cells and have pretty much been able to start enforcing their alt-left views on the rest of the state. Want to have fun? Drive around the rest of the state in a car with Kalifornia plates and feel the "love". When we were looking for housing when we moved to Grand Junction we had a rental with Kalifornia plates.

Government taxed and regulated, but half the regs are ignored. It is illegal to smoke in public but you see it everywhere and nothing is done. Just try drinking a beer in public and see what happens!

Actually a girl scout who was out selling everyone else got in trouble when it was discovered she was setting up a stand outside pot shops.

This is largely why we moved out of Kolorado and to the free state of Wyoming. Now if we van just keep the cancer out.

^^^ Hopefully CO can contain the cancer within their own borders. They reap what they sowed.

Yes, it does include alcohol and tobacco.
    They're probably worse than marijuana.

    I don't know about coffee?

Pot is illegal in my state but it's just a phone call away so what's the difference?

    I'll take freedom over safety.

Colorado has not been devastated by marijuana. Just one mans opinion and he has an agenda. There are down sides and up sides. There is more riff raff running around. The economy is doing great but that brings more people, which to me is the real downside. On the plus side people are able to legally and safely buy marijuana for personal use much like alcohol. I know people that lead normal lives that smoke and those that are under achievers. Its same for alcohol use. I even know people that don't do either that under achieve or live normal lives.
