Just finished James Swanson's new book on the Lincoln Assassination, Seward's attack and John Wilks Booth's near escape. It is a good read, well researched and is the latest exposition on the topic. It reveals a very clear timeline of events and presents them in a concise, well-written form. I am going to trace Booth's route next month from Ford's Theatre to the Garrett property near Bowling Green, Virginia. The Peterson House, where Lincoln died, and Dr. Samuel Mudd's residence are also open to the public. Can't wait!

I am a umpteenth cousin of Dr Mudd's! My paternal grandmother was a Mudd. After the assassination and trials a lot of people who had the surname Mudd, changed it. that is where the expression; "your name is Mudd!" came from.;f
