I need a ruling on this. I want to carry all of my EDC (every day carry) crap in a bag. I have a Maxpedition Sitka and a Maxpedition Jumbo. In general the Jumbo is more comfortable... but it could be considered a bit purse-like. What is the ruling?

If you need it, I do not see why not!

I carried my Jumbo EDC all over the Bahamas a couple of weeks ago on vacation. The only comments I got were "Dang, that's a handy bag, where'd you get it?"

I end up playing pack mule for my wife and 3 girls... last year I carried a backpack all over Disney World, it was hot and uncomfortable. This bag sits on the hip and is easy to access when you pull it around to the front.

I probably wouldn't throw it on and wear it around the grocery store, but it's an outstanding bag.

I think the blue gun and the big nalgene water bottle make it look worse than it really is. Collapsed down, it's much smaller and low-key. It also comes in different colors.

Also, the newest generation doesn't have the black hardware and "pull ring" on the front. (or black zippers)

problem is, on a daily basis I carry way too much crap.

    Wallet
    iPhone
    Keys
    20,000 Supermarket membership cards
    duct tape
    cable ties
    Swiss Army knife (trekker)
    netbook (sometimes)

Now I'll also be schlepping along my CCW + holster.

Sure I could cut out some of the stuff, but if I take just the essentials in my pants pockets I'll look like this:

If you are going all the way, why not add the stilettos and the mesh pantyhose.
Seriously, I have seen more and more "males" (metrosexuals) carry something that resembles the "mailman" correspondence bag. Is becoming more popular, and might be your ticket, without being laught at.:whistling:

Indiana Jones wears one. I get a lot of compliments on this.

Nothing says "take a look at my giant gun holster" like that.

I carry a Maxpedition Versipack in the Jeep whenever I go anywhere. I have some spare mags, flashlight, water bottle, flash drive, driver set, knife, etc. I don't however carry it with me whenever I go into a store or something like that. It's a handy bag to keep your "stuff" in.

I don't think it looks girly, but that's my perception of it.

    It's not a man purse, it's a European shoulder bag...

    Greetings hamster,

The Maxpedition "man purses" you are referring to look quite functional, and are probably not questioned when out and about with your family (like MarcoPolo mentioned), however . . .

My personal opinion only . . . is that a fanny pack, "man purse," or photographer's vest just scream that you are or that you might be carrying concealed. Maybe just my paranoia.

The only time that I use a "man purse" (fanny pack) is when I am riding my bicycle. I think that everyone seeing a fanny pack at that time assumes that you are carrying your wallet, keys, cell phone, etc. in the pack.

Otherwise, I guess I just prefer to carry IWB or in a pants pocket.

    Good luck!

They call it a man "purse" to point out that "men" don't carry them, because it's a purse. Neither do they carry so much stuff every day that they need a purse, another distinction between men and women. Even Batman carried all his stuff on his belt, and he had nearly as much as the average Glocktalker takes on a minivan drive to the mall.

I have two bags. The sitka (below) and the Jumbo (opening photo)

Both feature a single strap, the only difference is where on the body they ride.

Let me understand. Bag on side = purse. Bag on back = manly backpack. 45 degrees makes all the difference it seems.

Its funny how these things work out. :)

Anyway, whichever one I chose will end up as a diaper-bag in about 1 month. :)

No, even if you are Jack Bauer and are currently torturing information out of a terrorist, you still look gay with a maxpedition purse on.

You are your own man, do what's right for you, forget the naysayers! Bags would not be made if they weren't to be used.
