I have a question on this. If it was a former cop car, why did it still have working lights on it? While I don't know anything about the resale of the cars, I would think items like working police lights would be removed before they are sold. Or is that not the case?

Either way, this guy is an idiot.

AUSTIN -- Everyone has been frustrated while waiting in line at a fast-food restaurant, but one Austin man allegedly took things to another level.

According to Austin police, 34-year-old Thomas Martin, was in his black and white Dodge Charger while in line at a local McDonald's. Martin wasn't ready to order and another customer was allegedly told to go around him, which apparently Martin didn't want to happen.

According to the arrest affidavit, Martin's Charger was a former police car that still had the working light bar on top of the car and other police lights in the windows that still worked. As the driver started to go around the Charger, Martin allegedly yelled out that what the other driver was doing was illegal and that if the other driver kept it up, "You'll end up in the back of my car."

The other driver backed up and pulled up behind Martin's Charger, but the story doesn't end there.

An employee in the McDonald's drive-thru said that Martin threatened to take her downtown if she came outside. Another employee also said that Martin told them if they got his order wrong, he would take them to jail.

The real Austin police arrived and arrested Martin on a third-degree felony charge of impersonating a public servant. He was given a bond of $10,000 for his crime.

How do they sell a car with working police lights? I thought it was the standard operating procedure that those were removed before the cars are sold to the public? Maybe he bought the car and put the lights in himself?

I think it's an internet lie. All departments remove light bars, push bars, cages, and insignias. Most used to go to taxi companies when they were LTD's. Have Chargers already phased themselves out of duty?

Most likely he bought, set up the lights on his own would be my guess, or some sort of security company set up mistaken for real police lights.

Selling old police cars with genuine working lights would be a nightmare of liability, creepo pulls over young girls and molests them, there's no way any agency would pull a stunt like that.

Every cop knows better than that. You go to QT or Circle K, you get your soda for free.

What can you say, stupid people abound and Austin has more than their fair share.
