I have a guy who wants to make a trade with me. We both are trying to avoid shipping. I have heard that you can meet at ffl near the border of our states they can make the tranfers for us. Can anyone explain how this works?

Handguns or longarms? Handguns is more complex. Each of you has to use a FFL in YOUR state.

My recommendation is to each ship FFL to FFL. It's the most secure method for both of you. It may cost a little more, but it's worth the protection, in my opinion. I've done it this way a few times and always feel comfortable knowing it's been done to the letter of the law. Good luck!

I was under the assumption that doing this way was 100% legal

You must receive the firearm through an FFL in your state and he must receive the firearm through an FFL in his state. They cannot be the same FFL. If you clear it with the dealers beforehand, you can probably make it happen in one day. You will have to visit his FFL and he, yours.

    No legal way around it.

The cost may even be less when you consider having to use overnight shipping with UPS or FedEx. You also don't have to drive to the hub to send it.

His FFL talks to your FFL, they work it out, charge you whatever your FFL charges, and then FFL to FFL ships them out. I've done it several times with several states and that's how I've always done it.

You can drive to the state 1 and give the gun to the FFL and the FFL give it to the guy in state 1
Then the guy and you have to drive to your state 2 and the guy give the gun to the FFL in state 2 FFL give you the gun
This is legal as what I understood reading the ATF web site
I'm not a lawyer nor play one on the web
