I seem to recall someone talked about filling the hollow point space out with some sort of melted plastic. The goal was to keep the hollow point from being clogged with clothing during a self defense situation and fail to open up.

Hornady Critical Defense is the ammo that supposedly does that. They have it in 38 caliber upto 45 caliber, but not 10mm.

In a recent shooting:
"EAST NAPLES —A clerk at a landmark East Naples corner store shot and killed a man Tuesday as he attempted to rob the family-run shop and flee with her 1-year-old daughter."

http://www.naplesnews.com/news/2011...ssible-shooting-dels-24-hour/?partner=popular

The word was that this man was shot in the knee with a 45 Hornady Critical Defense, which blew out his leg artery and bled out before emergency crew got there. One shot.

Is this something we can do to existing hollow points such as 135gr to 180gr?

Mod I'm not gonna tell you what you can do or not do, but if it was done and that round was used in self defense and it was proven that you modified your sd ammo. Well I'm sure the ******* lawyers would have a field day with it, much more than having a 3.5 lb connector in your weapon. Just my humble opinion.

As for the perp, he got what he deserved.

Yep, current production supposedly available only at Cabelas is the 165 gr 10mm. I've run a couple boxes of this stuff and it's accurate. Not a nuclear load nor even close but no doubt would put a hurt'n on a bad guy.

Good point to consider as one goes through scenarios.

One day, they may force us to defend ourself by asking them to define "factory" ammo. What is considered factory? What are the guidelines?

Federal 9mm ammo is something everyone can agree to be "factory" ammo. But what about smaller guys, whose shops may fit inside a 1,200sqft strip mall space? Does someone like BuffaloBore making enough ammo to be considered "factory"? Do they have to apply and be approved by a government agency to be considered a "factory" shop? What about guys smaller than BBore who may do more volume? Swamp Fox? And even 21Carrier?

Or if we buy a powder dispenser accurate to 0.01gr then we can be considered "factory"?

FWIW, SwampFox is an ATF Licensed class 06 and class 01 FFL holder.

Class 06 is a License to manufacture ammo. So, Yes, I think of SwampFox as a manufacturer(factory) even though it is a small business.

Class 01 is a dealer in Firearms.

Very well. I like that.

To satisfy my curiosity, if you can tell me... did they require a quality audit prior to licensing, or was it just an interview(s) like Class 01 requires ?

In manufacturing of technical products, we had to have audits of product quality prior to getting ISO9000 status. So I wonder ATF is that strict.

I have no doubt this loading from Hornady in 10mm would majorly put the hurt on the bad guy too. Even though it's not a full house load it still generates 550 lb-ft of energy and I think its ideal for concealed carry because when I took the concealed carry training the instructors really stressed how much liability there is when carrying in public in regards to the bullets going thru the bad guy and killing innocents. Here's a great article on the hornady CD line- they tested the 165 hornady CD in .40 and at the lower velocity of the .40 it went through a heavy winter clothing barrier and 13 inch penetration and huge perfect expansion.....

They did the interview and checked what I was doing and procedures for tracking Lot numbers and other general quality issues.

They didn't test the ammo or require me to meet any particular performance specs, saami etc.
