With the recent acquisition of a Ruger SR1911 10mm and a Beretta PX4 Storm .40 S&W with its 14 rd mags, I was looking at a better way to load mags. Beretta provides a semi functional plastic loader with the gun.

Tried the Uplula for the first time and am quite pleased with it. I found it useful to do one thing not mentioned in the instructions. Gently restrain the last loaded round when withdrawing the "steel beak" as in my brief trial it tended to pull the round away from the back of the mag.

Nice that it doesn't require some adjustments to go from a single stack as is the case with the SR1911 to a double stack in the Beretta.

Those of you who are familiar with the Uplula may be rolling your eyes and thinking "Duh, about time he figured that out". If so, I'll just smile and move on with the new toy. Don

Yep. It can't be beat. I've loaded at least 50,000 rounds on mine and it still works as good as when it was new.

I think it's a lot easier to load pistol mags by hand, but I do own one.

I thought I never needed one till I built an AR 9 that uses 33 round Glock mags, I quickly discovered I needed one , soooo much faster & easier on the fingers!

You've evidently never loaded a 10rnd 9mm Shield mag? Those things are a bear to get the 10th round in. I never really needed one except for that.

I have one and it is easier to load a mag, when you have a flat surface to press it down on. When you don't, not so good. The HKS thumb drive loader can be held in the hand, no surface needed to push it down. It's very fast. Even the most simple little pull down loader, which was all I ever had when loading Beretta mags on the range works well, when you're not sitting at a table where you can use the Uplula. You can't always load up a dozen mags and have them on you. I never had more than 3 on the range at one time.
Oh yeah, the HKS is only about $12.

While "Duh, about time he figured that out" is one possible option, I'd rather just say I too came across it, and was grateful. For my SIG 365 magazines, I really needed it. It was a killer to load, and that little doodad was most helpful.

My two bits of advice to those who don't have one...
    1.) get one
2.) get a fluorescent yellow or other bright colored one. Much easier to locate in the range bag!

My local indoor range has a few chained to the tables. I still bring my own though.

I have been using one for many years. I would be lost without it. Still using the first one I purchased. It is made to last..

I have three. One in each range bag, and one on my workbench.

There weren't a lot of choices color wise at the several places I tried and I too didn't want black for exactly the reason you mentioned. I got one that is sort of a bright clay/umber sort of color, WON'T get lost in the range gear. Don

Only those with "young thumbs" say loading without an aide like an Uplula is silly.

Even so, unless training for combat conditions I never understood why one wouldn't use something that you push down-insert round-release-repeat. Especially if loading up 30+ 30 round mags.

    Work smarter, not harder
