Not sure of all the facts. It appears the owning family was not looking after her. I hate they spayed her if she is full blooded and registered. You cannot teach what she had in her, it's genetic and I would love to see that in the lab gene pool. I have been around and worked with Lab's most of my life. The really good hunting/field dogs get what they have from God. We just teach them to handle. They teach us so much in the process.

I guess I am in the minority but I choose not to spay or neuter my hunting dogs. Our Poms are. I have seen evidence both ways but my experience has been an in tact Lab doesn't tend to get heavy in their later years if you work them. I also like the perkiness of in tact female Labs with regards to hunting and handling. They have an awesome maternal instinct.

Wait, the shelter spayed the dog without permission? I would be pissed if I was the owner.
