Do you non-Californians use 10 rounders or full caps for GSSF matches?

I don't know if I've ever seen a 10 round mag in the free states I frequent, so since they're rare, and we'd have no real practical use for them, I can't think of any reason to use them in GSSF. Remember, you can (should) load to 11 on all stages (okay - some don't on '5') so that would also then require a Barney mag for the 11th - which many of us don't use either.

    we use 10 rounders

I have seen someone load 18 shoot a rack of plates leave several standing

while shooting to slide lock (wouldn't you love those procedurals)

10 with a barney work fine.

we also go to NJ and NY.

As an RO do you make sure that if someone does not shoot to

slidelock that they thumb out one when reloading?

Who, me LT? No, I ask them if they're loaded to 11 with each mag change because they may be like me and Ron and (almost) never shoot to slide lock, and so load 11 in the first mag only. :)

(Then... if I do shoot to slide lock, dig a round out of my pocket and top off my next 'loaded to 10' mag.)

Oh no... this thread is déjà vu, all over again.

EDIT: When I say "should be loaded to 11", I mean each string should start with 11 rounds in the gun - not necessarily 11 rounds in the mag.

    Never thought of this before.

You can't take your real mags to a GSSF shoot in a communist state that only allows 10 round mags right?

Kinda rules any of those states out for me.

Thanks for the answers guys. This is sort of what I figured. I use 10 rounders and use a stripper (sorry SARDG, I prefer strippers to Barneys! LOL!!) mag for the 1st round.

As for the ban states, I am pretty sure if your mags are "pre-ban" you are GTG. And of course you can rebuild your old worn out pre-ban mags with new parts so.....

I have both 10 rounders and pre ban full caps. I have been slowly adding to my 10 rounder collection as sometimes you can find them cheap, especially from free staters who find them occaisionlly included with new guns from old stock or in used gun deals from the ban era. I shoot a lot of matches that have 10 round mag limits, so any time I can pick up a spare 10 rounder for under 15 bucks I grab it. no use putting more wear than required on my limited stock of pre bans. Since gssf has a 11 round max limit on capacity, I have one pre ban with a plus 2 base I use to load my first round into the chamber, then use the 10 rounders after that-this way no matter what happens every time you reload the gun will have the max 11 rounds in it- unless you go to slide lock on a plate stage,of course.

    Or slide-lock on 'M'...

I suppose I've been doing a great job of keeping within the free pistol-belt of America 'cause I haven't come up with a 10-rnd need yet.

    I have both.

Seems to me the 10-rounders are cheaper.

I took all 10-rounders to the NJ shoot. I use both at the other shoots.

    I use full-cap mags when I carry.

I own 4 "Clinton Ban Mags" and I have always owned many of the "Standard Capacity Mags."

I don't visit states that won't allow Standard Capacity Mags. Why do I call them standard? That is what all the mags were before the Clinton Ban. Even the subcompact mags were the standard capacity for those guns.....

I guess you could refer to the 33 rd mag for the G18 as a standard capacity mag too!
