Trying to price out a custom build AR versus purchasing a complete rifle... Let me fist say that I've never owned an AR and my only knowledge lies within what I've read on the web, which to say the least can not always be accurate Will the majority of Lower Parts Kits fit the likewise majority of Lower Receivers out there? Are there any exceptions, if so what are they? Thanks...
As long as everything is in spec, you are good to go. I found RRA lower parts kits to have a slightly better trigger than the others I have tried. Then again, maybe I was luck on their kits. My Eagle Arms rifle, has the worst trigger period.
Now that the prices have come down and availability has gone up, an extra 8 or 9 bucks to buy a RRA LPK over a DPMS one is money well spent in my opinion. I have used both, and while they both do the job, the RRA has much better fit and feel, and a smoother trigger by far.
I've heard great things about Daniel Defense and the upper tier vendors, what about Del-Ton kits? This is so far the cheapest I've been able to price out... Lower: http://www.spikestactical.com/z/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=104_65&products_id=309 LPK: http://www.del-ton.com/AR_15_Lower_Parts_Kit_p/lp1045.htm I want to use Magpul for furniture and sights.... So far if I order what's listed I'm at $140ish, how much do complete uppers generally go for?
I had a hammer pin break on a DPMS lpk. I have had RRA lpk's that were so tight I had to fit the bolt stop and have had really bad triggers on some of the kits. My favorate LPK's for the money are Stag. Never had an issue with them. LMT lpk's are good but you can't find them. White OAK is also excellent. As far as lowers goes I have had a few that would not drop free with P mags. Laurer and CMMG. The rest LAR, Stag, Noveske, Saber have all done fine. Pat
