Pretty much any part of TN away from the 'metros' will fit your requirements. Do you like hills or flat? Lake or river fishing?

Pat I'm a Mid-TN boy, email me at tnronin@no1uknow.com if you want any info. I'm at the base of the Cumberland Plateau, I love it here. We call it God's Country. And I've lived literally ALL over the U.S.

I like the hiily country. I think i would rather be by some flowing water. One thing for sure i want to be by forest land. I would like to pickup 40 or so acres with a house if i can afford it. I am a Chicago Police officer an going to retire on the 15th of July. Stick around Chicago a year or two, to get my kid's acts together. But then i am gone from this state. I would also like to know the areas that are low in crime.

I'd say somewhere on the Cumberland Plateau (start at Crossville and expand outward) in the central region or most anywhere in east TN for hills and water. Prices are higher in more populated areas, of course, but are still reasonable. Start looking at the realtor sites now along with ebay, google, and other nonconventional ways to find property. I'm looking to move to the northwest later this year or so and have found lots of reasonably priced places on the web. And take some family vacations now to start narrowing down what you like and dont like. It really helped us. When I've bought property in the past, I've usually found the best deals in the local ad sheets(those 50-cent or so papers(sometimes free) that come out once a week).

Crime is generally related to the cities, which is related to the poorer neighborhoods and people- as it is pretty much everywhere. Around here there's 1 specific valley to avoid and another high crime area that I know of 2 counties over from where I grew up, but thats gonna be so local, you kinda have to get a local to clue you in. If you can grab a local cop or 2 off duty, they can clue you in(as you know). I think you'll find most folks pretty friendly and ready to tell you about their communities if you dont come off like an invading yankee(not being derogatory, thats just kinda the way many folks think here- esp rural folks).

I'd be glad to rattle on as you narrow your search. Keep us informed on your status.

Dude, you so need to contact me. I'm ex-LEO so I know how you feel. I live in some hilly country, and we have some of the best trout rivers in the South within 30 mins.

West TN rules. Come to Memphis and you will get unbelievable crime, in-your-face political corruption, crappy schools, and high property taxes. Oh, and everything is or becomes a racial issue.

I live on the Cumberland Plateau near Crossville. The area up here is absulutely beautiful. The history, culture, and scenery is rich , nice ,and relaxing.<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t73/smstrick69/stateparkbridgeLarge-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a><a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t73/smstrick69/TheLostSeatrip039-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>hERE IS A PICTURE OF THE BRIDGE OVER THE LAKE NEAR Cumberland State Park,.....and the other is a picture taken between Crossville and Spring City just beyond Grassy Cove off of HWY 68.
Sgt. Alvin York got off the train here after returning home from WWI. He lived in Pall Mall which is on the other end of the plateau. About 15-20 min from here is a Mininite village were you can buy home made bread, mollassas, leather work, candy, pies, etc. No matter what direction you drive in, either north , east , south , or west of here, there are waterfalls, scenic overlooks and rich history. Ten minites from here is Grassy Cove. comes second only to Cades Cove near Townscend.. Crossville is coined the golf capital of Tennessee. There is the Tanzi Country Club, Cumberland State Park, the historic settlement of Rugby, Big South Fork, etc. We are very close to Fall Creek Falls too. (worth checking out.)
We are in the perfect location between Knoxville and Cookeville off of Interstate 40. Very beautifull place. If you like to hunt, there is Catoosa Wildlife and as many places to fish up here that you can possibly fish in a lifetime. There are places to camp, fish, hunt, golf, boat, repell etc. There are clothes outlets around here as well as many other places to shop and spend money.
You can also look up online and do a search on the Cumberland County Playhouse where they put on shows, plays and musicals. (As does the Palace Theater in downtown Crossville near the town square.) Check it out. I have been living here for a little over seven years and I plan to die here.

I don't know about Nashville,..but there are some nice ones around the Knoxville area. Nice outdoor range in Oak Ridge and a nice indoor range at Coal Creek Armorey in Knoxville.

Guns and Leather has a great indoor range for handguns, it is in Greenbrier and 30 min. north of Nashville. Gun City in Nashville is like shooting in a dungeon and the couple of times I been there the employees were rude. There is a great website for gun owners in Tn. www.tngunowners.com

I agree! Chattanooga is a great little city! It has everything you need, but still feels "homey." If you really want to get out in nature, it's just a few minutes away. Tons to see and do. A lot of Atlantans have packed-up, and resettled in the area.

Now... Can anyone tell me about Lawrenceburg & Franklin, TN.>??? Gonna be visiting both soon!:)
