I am new to glocks and have no idea. Thanks in advance.

Nasty thanks for the help, is your glock a 22 and it has a #17 spring?? Are these still considerd stock? I read the rules and I think it is for SSP?

I use a 13# ISMI spring on a stock guide rod in my 34, 35, 17 and 22 for competition. If I were going to carry any of these I would use a stock recoil spring assembly.

I shoot SSP (stock) with my G34 (Warren sights, Ghost connector, trigger job,). I don't have a stainless rod in for SSP.

My friend shoots his G34 in ESP. I think your modifications would be in ESP (enhanced).

Man this site is great thanks for helping out the new guy. So I can make internal changes except Tungsten rod and the 9mm barrel. Am I reading that right. So to shoot SSP I keep my stock barrel or a replacment G22 barrel and internal mods. I plan to shoot 165gr Am Eagle .40 and get the SS rod an 15# spring this will drop down the muzzle flip and recoil right.?? I just got my 22 and have not fired a round thru it yet but I am just planning for the future, I fired a rental 22 and was spot on with it but the recoil was way different, I am way more accurate with Sig 9mm and definatley my .45XD. I just really want to get that recoil down and gain an quicker follow up shots.

American Eagle 165 gr will run at at about 186 power factor. I'd just run the stock spring. Dropping to a 15# spring is not going to give you much detectible difference.

The longer barrel doesn't really have anything to do with it. I reload my own ammo, so I'm running a 147gr plated bullet at around 880 fps or so in 9mm and a 180gr plated bullet at around 730 fps or so in 40. Both give a power factor of around 130,000 (bullet wt in grains times velocity in feet per second). The OP's choice of Federal American Eagle 165 runs at around 1130 fps. If I were using factory ammo that hot, I'd stick with the stock spring.

Your gun comes with a 17# spring. I would not change the guide rod unless you're going to a lighter spring. If you want 17#, just stay stock.

I am glock stupid fellas and I appreciate the help immenselly. But I dont know the difference of changing springs and other stuff for my 22. I do know that there is a lot of recoil and flip to it. It is manageable for sure. But I dont think that Ill be competitive when I start shooting IDPA I have read Changing the rod and springs with redcue the reciol and flip as well as a 3x5 connector?? will help. I dont reload so I am firing Factory Am Eagle 165gr Hot ammo?? as one fellow glocker stated. My goal is to reduce the recoil or flip to achive faster follow on shots. to be competitive. I dont have the $$ for a trigger job and I cant shoot the 9mm barrel in SSP so I am sorry if I confused you guys.

I'm gonna follow this thread.. I've heard a lot of differed opinions on spring weights and what is effective at lowering recoil/muzzle flip...

I have a g17 and have a 13 , 15 , and stock 17 pounders.... tried the 15 and 17.... and I wouldn't say I noticed a huge difference... but I know the stock one has had thousands and thousands of rounds through it...

Trigger job shouldn't cost you any money... just polish up your stuff. ($0.25)
It won't help the muzzle flip though

Changing the spring doesn't reduce recoil, just how it is felt. See http://www.custom-glock.com/springtech.html for a good explanation and some recommendations. Yes, the American Eagle is hot compared to what is allowed in ESP and SSP in IDPA.
