My nightstand gun is my G35 loaded up with 180gr HST's. I use Dawson narrow post FO on the front and a Warren Tactical semi U rear sight (no optics). I shoot this gun as well,as any in my safe.
To be honest though, the nightstand gun is only backup to the Beretta Comp loaded with Federal #1 Buck with FCW. That load patterns like a very wide slug at 30'.
